Description

These German Chocolate Brownies are a delicious twist on the classic German Chocolate Cake. With a rich chocolate brownie base, topped with a gooey coconut-pecan frosting, this treat is an irresistible combination of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (30g) cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup (120g) sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup (120g) chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  • Make the brownie batter: In a large bowl, mix the melted butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract. Stir in the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder until fully combined. Add milk to make the batter smooth.
  • Bake the brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool while you prepare the topping.
  • Make the topping: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sugar together with evaporated milk. Stir in the shredded coconut, chopped pecans, and vanilla extract. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, until thickened.
  • Top the brownies: Spread the coconut-pecan mixture evenly over the cooled brownies.
  • Chill and serve: Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares. The topping will set as it cools.

Notes

  • These brownies can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • You can substitute walnuts for pecans if preferred.
  • For an extra indulgent treat, top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
