Description

This easy and flavorful Turkey Taco Meat is a healthier alternative to traditional ground beef tacos. Made with lean ground turkey and a blend of spices, it’s perfect for taco night and can be customized to fit various dietary needs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup water or broth
  • Juice of 1 lime (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onions and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  • Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Brown the ground turkey in the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula, for about 5-6 minutes.
  • Season the meat with chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  • Add the water or broth to the skillet and let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Squeeze lime juice over the cooked turkey (optional) and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
  • Serve with tortillas, lettuce wraps, or taco shells, and your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • You can adjust the level of spice by adding more cayenne or leaving it out.
  • This turkey taco meat can be used in tacos, burritos, salads, or bowls.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, ensure that the broth and seasonings are gluten-free.
